Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola Uses Distinct Modes of Stationary-Phase Persistence To Survive Bacteriocin and Streptomycin Treatments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Populations of genetically identical bacteria encompass heterogeneous physiological states. The small fraction that are dormant can help the population survive exposure to antibiotics and other stresses, potentially contributing recurring infection cycles in animal or plant hosts.

Ecological and genetic analysis of copper and streptomycin resistance in Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae.
Strains of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae resistant to copper, streptomycin, or both compounds were recovered from symptomless and diseased tissue of four woody hosts in three nurseries in Oklahoma. In strains resistant to copper and streptomycin (Cur Smr), resistance to both compounds was cotransferred with a single plasmid which was either 68, 190, or 220 kilobase pairs (kb). All Cus Smr s...
متن کاملPseudomonas syringae pv. syringae Uses Proteasome Inhibitor Syringolin A to Colonize from Wound Infection Sites
Infection of plants by bacterial leaf pathogens at wound sites is common in nature. Plants defend wound sites to prevent pathogen invasion, but several pathogens can overcome spatial restriction and enter leaf tissues. The molecular mechanisms used by pathogens to suppress containment at wound infection sites are poorly understood. Here, we studied Pseudomonas syringae strains causing brown spo...
متن کاملBacteriocin Typing of Some Turkish Isolates of Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola
Eighty-six Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola isolates collected from different bean growing areas in Eskişehir were typed for the production of bacteriocin. All the isolates tested produced bacteriocin and 24 bacteriosin groups were determined. No correlation was found between the bacteriocin groups and geographical origin. Authentic isolates of the bacterium representing 3 different races w...
متن کاملReduction of olive knot disease by a bacteriocin from Pseudomonas syringae pv. ciccaronei.
A bacteriocin produced by Pseudomonas syringae pv. ciccaronei, used at different purification levels and concentrations in culture and in planta, inhibited the multiplication of P. syringae subsp. savastanoi, the causal agent of olive knot disease, and affected the epiphytic survival of the pathogen on the leaves and twigs of treated olive plants. Treatments with bacteriocin from P. syringae pv...
متن کاملCharacterization of alginate lyase from Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae.
The gene encoding alginate lyase (algL) in Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae was cloned, sequenced, and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Alginate lyase activity was optimal when the pH was 7.0 and when assays were conducted at 42 degrees C in the presence of 0.2 M NaCl. In substrate specificity studies, AlgL from P. syringae showed a preference for deacetylated polymannuronic acid. Sequence a...
